The Coastal Explorers Wildlings Program is a fully immersive nature based drop-off program for ages 6-12. Class will run at the same time for both our age groups (3-5 and 6-12) and will be structured in a way that we will incorporate all age groups for certain activities but will break up into smaller groups based on age, interests, and skill level for other activities.
Our program focuses heavily on unstructured and child led exploration with an emphasis on nature connection, basic wilderness survival, plant/animal identification, and coastal specific activities. Our instructors experience class alongside the children and educate them based on the limits and curiosities of each child as well as through natural opportunities that arise throughout each day. Children are natural explorers, more so than most adults. Through our teaching methods we aim to embrace the strengths and weaknesses of each individual child by allowing them the freedom to freely explore and navigate their own way through nature alongside their classmates and instructors.
On top of exploring and playing outdoors within the coastal bend here are some of the things you can expect your child to learn how to do:

Class will be held at various locations throughout the Coastal Bend. We are lucky to live in a place with so many beautiful and easily accessible nature spots and want to take advantage of that. You can expect class to be held anywhere from North Padre Island to Mathis so please take that into consideration when applying.
Parents will be responsible for timely drop off and pick up.
This Coastal Explorers Program is a strict drop-off program, however we do plan outings with all the families every other month and most classes some parents stay longer at pick-up to hang out with the other families or let their kids play some more with their friends. So community and parent involvement is very important to us.
We understand the desire to want to be involved in the class with your child but almost all wilderness schools in the U.S. are drop-off programs where the children really benefit from an environment where they are being mentored by instructors that have spent and do spend considerable time educating themselves on outdoor, nature-based mentorship, so having parents involved takes away from that which is a core value add to the program. *Please keep in mind that not all 3 year olds will be ready for our program, children must be potty trained and able to fully communicate their needs to our instructors. If you are questioning whether your child is ready we offer a free trial class where we will be able to assess where your child is at.*
We have a strict no cellphone use policy during our classes. In case of an emergency Jonathan will have a phone on him.
